Last night I saw Jeremy Lin look like a toddler among men in the Knicks loss to the Miami Heat. For the past two weeks or so, Limsanity has not only taken over New York but also America and the World.
That’s a huge amount of pressure for a 23 year old player that was never drafted by the NBA, and cut loose by the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets.
Suddenly, after getting an opportunity to play Jeremy Lin performed like a world class point guard against some bad NBA teams. Then came a 38 point performance against Kobe Bryant and the L.A. Lakers and Linsanity was born.
But, I believe in the old saying, “If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.” Nobody wanted to hear that during Lin-mania because people’s minds were made up. They projected upon this no-name point guard from Harvard greatness beyond the likes of Walt Frazier and Bob Cousy.
Jeremy Lin has been riding a shooting star that flies across the night sky never to be seen again. And the media hype machine has loved reporting the Legend of Lin all the way up. All Lin has to do is continue being great every night otherwise something is wrong. Mania has to be constantly fed. It’s greedy like that. Jeremy Lin is only human. And the media loves writing about the fall as well.
The Last Tradition is fast becoming one of the most popular political blogs on the net. Don’t miss out on the fun and tell a friend.
